The Debate on Body Cameras
In the aftermath of recent police shootings have come calls to make body cameras mandatory of all police. I’m a supporter of the body cams but it is important to recognize these cameras are not the be all end all for police transparency. Footage from body cams never provides the entire story and should always be viewed as one important piece of the overall evidence picture. Aside from the investigative process, other considerations include privacy of those people captured on the video and the management and cost of data storage.
At the invtation of Wallethub.com, I recently participated in a discussion of body cam issues along with 15 “experts” on policing. The entire article can be found here. To see my comments, just click on the picture of the scary looking guy in the blue shirt!!
